Fundación Menudos Corazones and We are testers joined forces to carry out a study on the degree of knowledge about congenital heart disease. Its results were presented jointly at an institutional event with the presence of representatives from the health, institutional and social fields. A large number of media outlets echoed the results of the study.

The challenge

Fundación Menudos Corazones has been working for 23 years accompanying people with congenital heart defects and their families, offering emotional, psychological and social support, and promoting the visibility and understanding of this reality in society.

Menudos Corazones, together with the advertising agency DOSDICEN, contacted We are testers at the beginning of 2026 to carry out a study on the occasion of International Congenital Heart Disease Day. Its objective was to shed light on the degree of knowledge of this important pathology among Spanish society. Their data would be used as «information lever» within their «A pecho descubierto» campaign.

The study

We are testers decided to join the cause of the Menudos Corazones Foundation and together they carried out a study through an online survey of a representative sample of the population of the We are testers panel. Thanks to being able to have its own panel, it was possible to ask for the altruistic collaboration of the testers. Both We are testers and the Menudos Corazones Foundation would like to expressly thank the 800 «testers» who participated in the survey for their gesture. The We are testers researchers supervised the fieldwork and the exploitation of the results together with the Menudos Corazones team.

The results

The study concluded that, despite being the most common congenital malformation in Spain and the main cause of mortality in babies under one year of age, congenital heart disease continues to be largely unknown to society. Menudos Corazones and We are testers tested the degree of knowledge of citizens and quantified beliefs and perceptions about the pathology. In addition, they identified ways to improve the degree of public knowledge about congenital heart disease and pointed out which agents they believe should be involved in the task.

The conclusions of the study were presented jointly by Menudos Corazones and We are testers at an institutional event that was attended by representatives of the health, institutional and social fields.

The presentation of the study was part of the broader awareness campaign «A pecho descubierto». The central audiovisual piece had the solidarity participation of Belén Rueda, honorary president of Menudos Corazones, as well as Carlos Latre, Patricia Conde and Javier Veiga, who lent their voice and image to amplify the message together with patients and families. Other content featured affected people, who provided context, emotion and reality to the report’s data.

The «A pecho descubierto» campaign is a social initiative devised by the advertising agency DOSDICEN, in collaboration with the Menudos Corazones Foundation, and produced by Good Mood. Many other professionals and companies contributed altruistically to the project. Among them Ubiqual, Passcreator, Cars Studio, La Caseta, Iberpixel, Hallon and Salamandra Producciones, as well as the addition of collaborating companies such as Cardiva, El Pozo and Cortefiel, among others.

The impact

The campaign had a wide impact on all types of media, including television networks, radio stations and leading newspapers in the country.

For the We are testers team, it was a pleasure to collaborate in solidarity with the Menudos Corazones Foundation, supporting them in their goal of making congenital heart disease more visible in society. On the contribution of We are testers, Chus Montes, head of Communication at Fundación Menudos Corazones commented: Having We are testers was a total success. The process was incredibly agile and effective, allowing us to obtain valuable data to raise awareness in society and generate a real media impact, as well as getting involved in the dissemination of the study. Empathy, professionalism and altruism went hand in hand to achieve key results in the understanding of congenital heart disease.

Good luck to Fundación Menudos Corazones for making life a little easier for all people and families affected by congenital heart disease!
